Sunny Side Up Tropical Festival's Glorious Return to Bali / by irvan wahyudi

Nusa Dua’s beautiful landscape surrounded the sixth edition of Sunny Side Up Tropical Festival which was held at Manarai Beach House for the first time ever last Saturday, 24 August 2019.

Kai from Tantra Bali kicked off the festival followed by a stellar performance by Grace Carter that put her voice in the forefront. With songs like “Silence”, “Saving Grace”, and “Why Her Not Me”, Grace ushered festival goers to the evening as the sun was setting during her performance.

Australian DJ and producer, Yahtzel, made his Sunny Side Up debut with a live set that saw him playing the guitar and keyboard across his performance. This year’s festival also marks the return of Grammy-nominated TOKiMONSTA whose set had festival goers, coming from around the globe, on their feet.

Excitement went through the roof as Flume arrived on stage. Bringing his first ever LIVE format to Indonesia at the festival, Flume invited 2 guest stars to stage, one of them was singer/songwriter Vera Blue who performed “Never Be Like You”. Rapper Reo Cragun was also invited to the stage for a performance of the song “Friends”.

A few orchids were put on display on stage throughout Flume’s conceptual set. A theatrical performance, to say the least, Flume brought festival goers on an unprecedented musical ride, one that was unpredictable from one song to the other.

The stage simply became Flume’s theatrical playground. From interacting with various cameras connected to the stage’s huge screen in between songs with visual effects, wielding metal live on stage, to smashing printers, Flume’s set was far from dull.

“I’m so happy to be here in Bali,” said Flume. “I can’t wait to be back here again soon,” he continued as he was finishing his set.
